“Taking time to prepare is everything . . .”
Sean McGinley is one of the most talented and well-known Irish film and TV actors working today. He has given stellar performances in many memorable films over the past 30 years, including The Field, Braveheart, Michael Collins, The General, Gangs of New York, and The Wind That Shakes the Barley. His extensive TV resume includes appearances in Family, Love/Hate and The Fall.
Jude and James had the pleasure of sitting next to Sean at The Irish Tatler Man of the Year awards last year, and found him and his wife Marie to be a truly inspirational couple.
1. Moments in your life that give you pleasure.
I walk a lot. Early morning, most days. Along Sandymount strand and out to the Poolbeg Lighthouse. It’s beautiful. Sometimes I go all the way, sometimes not. It’s important to always look forward to doing it. That way you’ll keep doing it.
2. What’s your life philosophy/ driving force?
Taking time to prepare is everything. What do I need to do to get this job done right? Find out. Then do it.
3. Who inspires you and why?
My friends. People who are honest. My wife Marie and my daughters Róisín and Maighread being prime examples.
4 . What do you like to prepare well for each day?
I try and do things better every time!
5. One piece of advice you would give to young people today? One piece of advice that you heard somewhere and stick by.
Don’t be a dickhead!
